Our goal is not to be a NGO. Unfortunately, our first steps as a Falla were marked by the horrible terrorist attacks in Madrid in 2004.
All of society was affected, including the world of Fallas, which at that point was already immersed in its preparations and celebrations of that year.
Nou Campanar spontaneous reaction was to give 25% of that year’s first-award winning Falla takings to the attack victims.
After making that decision, we decided to send one part of our budget to social purposes in order to relieve, as best as we can, the needs and sufferings of the people affected.
And we managed to do so. In a careful and silent way, trying to avoid any publicity, we have collaborated with several projects inside and outside of Spain.
We have always tried to focus on those efforts aimed towards children and women protection (discrimination).
We would also like to make a special mention of our collaboration with the AVT (Terrorism Victims Association), being deeply proud of Irene Villa, who was our Fallera Mayor.
Irene and her mother shared a very special year with us, visiting us in the following years. In those days, we managed to achieve something that some people may describe as irrelevant, but was very important for us: making Irene one of ours and to make her feel like it.
Mozambique and Guatemala, with the construction of sports facilities for the children of the area, were also one of our supportive contributions.
At present, we are collaborating in Ethiopia to give women access to culture and fight against women genital mutilation.
We are not trying to make a big deal out of it. Our reward is everyone’s satisfaction in doing this, just because we want to and we feel like it.
The Asociación Cultural Nou Campanar is a falla commission. Its main purpose is to make the best monuments it can, but it will contribute with a part of its budget to ease the suffering of people in need.
With this purpose in mind, from our early beginnings we have worked as a cultural association with several non-profit organizations that jointly have helped us to achieve our goals.
